Edna B Felts

Edna Byrd Felts, 94, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on October 28, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Edna was born December 30, 1922, in Tampa, Florida, to the late William Rex and Annie (Ard) Byrd. She was predeceased by her husband, Buford B. Felts, whom she married in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 4,1941.

A member of the Greatest Generation, she worked at the Cleveland Clinic and at a Cleveland defense plant during WWII, while her husband, an Army Warrant Officer, served in the Pacific. Edna will be remembered for her love of plants and tirelessly working in the yard she loved. She enjoyed being a member of the Northbridge Baptist Church, where she was involved in their many activities. She also enjoyed having her family around her to celebrate the holidays and baking the pound cake she was so famous for. She worked at the Baptist College, where she ran the post office for over 10 years. She also enjoyed working at Keepsakes Florist, surrounded by the flowers she loved.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Felts (Joan), 3 daughters, Shirley Gilbert (Richard), Judy Bono, Karen Spalviero (Mike); a brother, Leon Byrd, and sisters, Sue Ready and Carol Sanders, 8 grandchildren, Richard Gilbert (Debbie), Cathy Lewis, Jenny Lewis, Amy Waite (Ned), Meri Spalviero-Boyd (Andrew), Shawn Conner (Tracy), Shannon Shuler (Chip), and Alan Felts; and 7 great grandchildren.

She was also predeceased by a grandson, Walter Spalviero (Erin), and sisters, Virginia Myers and Lillian Mays.

We would like to thank the staff of Palmettos of Charleston for Edna’s compassionate care during the past year. Also, we would like to thank the staff of Roper St Francis Hospital, West Ashley, for the care and compassion shown in Edna’s final days.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on Fort Johnson Road.

Memorial donations may be made, in her memory, to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
