Hazel S. Thomas, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 17, 2017.
She was born on January 31, 1927 in Fort Moultrie, SC to Howard and Ottilia Helfrish Todd.
Hazel was a graduate of Moultrie High School, attended Winthrop University and was an original “Island Girl”. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of East Cooper Outboard Motor Club, and a dedicated volunteer as a room parent, Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader. Hazel enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She and her late husband Joe, enjoyed many seasons fishing and living life in Key West and fishing on the Wando River in the Low Country. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Aunt and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly S. Martin (Clay), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Malcolm T. Shealor (Felicia), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Martin (Kelsey), Simmons Martin, Julia Shealor, Jessica Shealor and Ashley Shealor; one great grandchild, Lily Hazel Martin; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Joseph J Thomas Jr., one son, Jeffrey Holmes Shealor; two sisters, Vivian Bonnoitt and Helen West; one brother, Howard Todd.
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00AM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
Burial to follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 225 Seven Farms Drive #107, Charleston, SC 29492.
