Obituary for James Austin Bowen

James Austin Bowen, 81, of Moncks Corner, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 18, 2017.
Born in Moody, SC, he was the son of the late William John Bowen and Annie Drew Bowen and husband to Betty Long Bowen. James served his country in the United States Air Force and later, 35 years as an aircraft mechanic at the Charleston Air Force Base. He was a member of VFW Post 10256 in Goose Creek and enjoyed fishing, watching the South Carolina Gamecocks, and was known to have fished almost every body of water in South Carolina.
James is survived by his wife, Betty Long Bowen; children, Lena ReneƩ Bowen Elvis and husband Eric of Moncks Corner, James Bowen, Jr. and wife Linda of Summerville, Joseph Anthony Bowen and wife Leslie of Beaufort and W. J. Bowen of Cross; brothers, Jerry Bowen of Dayton, TN and Thomas Bowen of Goose Creek; sister, Florence Bowen Parrish of Dorchester and husband Charles; grandchildren, James Bowen, III, Amanda Bowen, Samantha Collette, Eric Elvis, Nicole Faulkenberry, Mariah Bowen, Bryce Bowen, Tanner Bowen, Braydon Bowen and Sam Bowen; great-grandchildren, Conner Bowen, Graysen Bowen, Reagan Bowen, Hayley Collette, Brooks Collette and Caleb Faulkenberry.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
