James Howard Simmons

James Howard Simmons, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2017.
He was born on July 1, 1933 in Charleston, SC to the Late Yonge Simmons Jr. and the Late Eleanor (Philippi) Simmons.
Jimmy was a graduate of Moultrie High School, Mt. Pleasant, SC, he then enlisted in the U.S. Army and married the love of his life Germain at age 24. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, shagging, reading, traveling and spending time with his children and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
He is survived by brother, Paul H. Simmons, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Tucker Kowalski (Allyson Burkett) , of Wilmington, NC, James (Melissa) Kowalski, Joseph (Heather Duby-Tharpe) Simmons, of Hanahan, SC, Daniel Simmons, of Orlando, FL; son-in-law, Edward Kowalski, of Oxford, NC; great grandchildren, Alexandra Duby, Chloe Tharpe) and Vera Kowalski; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife of 40 years, Germain Cumbee Simmons; daughters, Debra Kowalski and Michelle Tharpe; son, Howard Simmons; sister, Eleanor Basnight; brothers, Yonge Simmons III and Thomas W. Simmons.
The family will receive friends on August 26, 2017 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
The Celebration of Life Services will be on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel. A burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Beacon Hospice, Diabetes Research, Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of your choice.
The family suggests Tiger Lily if flowers will to be sent to the service.
