Mary Jo Garvey

March 18, 1923 — March 5, 2017

Garvey, Mary Jo age 93, of St. Louis, MO., passed peacefully Sunday March 5, 2017, in Charleston, S.C., fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband William John Garvey (Bill), her parents Vincent Zucchero, and Winifred Vincenza (nee Catanzaro) Zucchero, her sister Antoinette Dorothy Caito
(Lee), and her brothers Cosimo Rudolf, Joseph Ernest and Vincent Salvatore Jr..

Mary Jo graduated from Washington Univ. and was a professional ballet dancer with the St. Louis Opera Co. (MUNY), dancing in a wide variety of ballets, musicals and shows. Later she taught dance, choreography and was a P.E. teacher.

Mary Jo was devoted to her family, lovingly raised 3 children and was realtor for Gundaker. Mary Jo was very social and loved having a good time with family and close friends. She was a long-standing member of St. Clements Parish in Des Peres. 

She is survived by her children; Dr. William Timothy Garvey (Mary Beth) of Birmingham AL., Dr. Michael Vincent Garvey (Lisa) of St. Charles, MO.,and Mimi Nusbaum (Robert) of Charleston, S.C.; her sister Winifred Marie Schmedtje of Indianapolis, IN., her sisters-in-law Maria Zucchero (nee Sansone) and Janice Zucchero (nee Ahearn), and seven grandchildren Erin Nusbaum Rehm and Morgan Nusbaum Jones; Heather and Joseph Garvey; and Alexandra, John, and Olivia Garvey; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Services: A funeral Mass will be held at St. Clements Church in Des Peres, Sat. March 25th at 10:30; family and friends are asked to meet 10 am in the church’s lobby for a Mass at 10:30 am. After burial in Calvary, a memorial reception will be held at “Mama's on the
 Hill”.
