Billy F Gheesling

Billy Fortson Gheesling, 90, of Goose Creek , South Carolina passed, Friday, November 17, 2017. He was born on January 7, 1927 in Warrenton, Georgia to Frank and Ruth Gheesling. He was a World War II veteran. He retired after 30 years in the Navy as a Master Chief. Billy then worked 13 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He met the love of his life, Hannelore, on her birthday, while serving in Germany in 1952, they were married 56 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of First Baptist Church of Goose Creek, and a 26 year volunteer in the Mended Hearts program at Trident Hospital. Billy was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed fishing, volunteering, riding his bicycle, gardening and woodworking. His favorite part of the day was going to the Goose Creek Senior Center and spending time with his friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Hannelore. He is survived by his son Michael (Leslie) Gheesling of Buford, Georgia; daughter Evelyn (Earl Moore) Gaskins of Moncks Corner; five grandchildren: Sara and Christopher Gheesling, Wendi Gaskins, Matthew (Lauren) Gaskins and Noah LeaMond; six great grandchildren: Tyler, Grier, Hannah, Chase, Charlie and Hallie; and one great great granddaughter: Dani.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Goose Creek Senior Center.

A visitation will be held, Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM, at McALISTER SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL. A service will be held Monday, November 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM , at McALISTER SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, North Charleston, SC.
