Charles Randall Gilmore

January 24, 1927 — October 20, 2017

Charles Randall Gilmore, born Jan. 24 1927 son of Charles Reginald Gilmore and Huldah Randall Gilmore in Bronx, New York. As a child the family moved to Baldwin, where he started his education. At an early age, he was very industrious; from delivering papers, caddying for golfers to setting up pins at the local bowling alley.

Randy loved music and sports. At a young age, he mastered playing the trombone and was first chair. He also wrested in both Junior and Senior High School and was co-captain at Baldwin High School. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force Pilot Program during WWII and when that program ended he enlisted in the Navy/Air Force Training Program. After the war, he continued his further education under the GI Bill and graduated from Dartmouth College where he also wrestled and lettered in this sport. He went on to further his education with a double Master’s in Education at Hofstra College and another from New Paltz College. He started teaching in the Baldwin School system where he remained for 34 years as Chairman of the Math Department in the Junior High. During his years teaching, he continued to coach young students on the wrestling team.

In 1954, he married Ann Marie Masciale and had two children; Pamela and Edward. She predeceased him in 1985. He then retired from education and moved to South Carolina. While living in Mt. Pleasant, he was able to spend time enjoying tennis, running and playing golf as a member of Snee Farm Country Club and exploring the beautiful beaches and historic Charleston. In 1992, he married Joanne Marie Massa and together helped raise her 3 children.

His love of reading and poetry is very evident in his varied collections cultivated by his mentor Bill Bronk, a very accomplished poet. He continued to enjoy his love of music which ranged from classical, blues, jazz and opera. All who came in contact with him enjoyed the stories of his childhood summers in Pine Grove, Connecticut.
He was also predeceased by his brother Bobby and his stepson Paul Joseph Ingrassia.

He is survived by his loving wife Joanne, daughter Pamela, son Edward (Jennifer) daughter Cristine Ribes, son Peter (Kadra) Ingrassia, and six grandchildren; Grant and Lily Gilmore; Caroline and Joe Ribes and Peter and Gianna Ingrassia. He also leaves a brother Norman (Terry), 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
