Claude Leonard Turner

June 2, 1948 — September 15, 2016

Claude Leonard Turner, 68, of Goose Creek, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016. Born in Tulsa, OK, he was the son of Velma Adaline Turner and the late L.M. Turner and husband to Lavinia Toole Turner. Mr. Turner graduated with degrees from the University of Arizona, The Citadel, and University of South Carolina. A lifelong educator, he retired as Principal at College Park Middle School in Goose Creek, following a career with Berkeley and Charleston County Schools. In addition to his working career, Mr. Turner is a United States Army Veteran. He was an active member of Peace Presbyterian Church and was a past Elder. Survivors include his wife, Lavinia Turner; son, James Turner and wife Kerry of Goose Creek; daughter, April Turner and husband Karl of Goose Creek; mother, Velma Adaline Turner of Kentucky; sister, Cartha Tennille of San Dimas, CA. Mr. Turner is also survived by his two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 2:00 pm, at Peace Presbyterian Church, Goose Creek. The family will receive friends at 12:30 pm at the church prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Peace Presbyterian Church, 174 Londonderry Road, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
