Dorothy W. Rogers

Dorothy Windle Rogers, 58, of Mt Pleasant, SC, was called home to be with the Lord on April 20, 2017.

Dorothy was born in Winchester, VA on March 10, 1959 to June and Norman Windle.

Dorothy was an amazing woman and will be remembered for the strength she exhibited and her pure selflessness during her battle with ovarian cancer that would ultimately claim her life. Dorothy graduated third in her class from John Handley High School (Winchester, VA) in 1977 while serving as Class Secretary. Dorothy furthered her education graduating from the University Of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA) School Of Nursing in 1981 with honors.

Dorothy worked as a Registered Nurse and was a USAF Veteran. In the USAF, she helped women deliver their children and in her post-military career, she worked in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, taking care of premature babies and those born with serious complications.

Dorothy was a Master Gardener and enjoyed container and landscape gardening. She shared her love of gardening with her family and friends. Dorothy’s volunteer work included the Junior League, the family’s churches, the East Cooper Community Outreach and other charitable organizations.

Dorothy dedicated her life to her family, supporting her husband, Colonel Bryan “Buck” Rogers, USAF, retired, throughout their 26-year military career. Dorothy managed to make each of the more than a dozen addresses into a home. She had a knack of converting even the worst base housing into a beautiful and loving home.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Buck, their two sons, Jonathan and Alexander, her mother, June Windle, her sister, Norma Albanese, Norma’s husband, Colonel Frank Albanese, USAF retired, their three children, Kristen, Kaylee, and Frank III, and her brother, Nathan, whom Dorothy donated a kidney to in 2002.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Norman, and her older sister, Marty Ann.

Dorothy leaves behind a hundreds of friends and their families. The love and support extended by Dorothy to her friends through the years was graciously returned through the comfort and care received during her eight-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Dorothy, loved by all, was an active member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church and an integral part in the formation of Palmetto Presbyterian Church.

Memorial services will be held at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church on 29 April 2017 at 1100.

Memorial donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to Hope House at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church or to the National Kidney Foundation.
