Elizabeth R. 'Beth' Laird

February 3, 1950 — April 30, 2015

Elizabeth “Beth” Laird, 65, of Goose Creek, passed away April 30, 2015 at Trident Medical Center after a two year battle with cervical cancer. Born in Rapid City, SD to Jay and Bernadine Evans. Beth attended and graduated from the Hill City, SD school system in 1968. She attended National College of Business in Rapid City, SD prior to starting her Federal Government career with the United States Forest Service in Custer, SD. Beth completed her career with the Department of Defense, Stockton, CA in 1997. She is survived by her husband Norm Laird of Goose Creek; daughter, Shana Stender of Spearfish, SD; step-daughters, Shelia Laird of Summerville and Kelli Ore of Morrison, CO; step-son, Chuck Laird of Chicago, IL; grandson, Justin Stender of Spearfish, SD; step-grandsons, Mike Beachley of Summerville and Zach Ore of Morrison, CO; her mother, Bernadine Evans of Summerville; sisters, Kathy Roberts of Summerville and Sue Evans of Fort Collins, CO. Beth is also survived by two great step-grandchildren, Nicholas Beachley and Adalee Beachley. She was predeceased by her father Jay Evans, brother, Chris Evans and a great step-grandchild, Zoe Beachley. Memorial Service will be held, Monday, May 4, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL. A luncheon will follow the service at the Fleet Reserve Association, 99 Westeria Road, Goose Creek. Mrs. Laird will be interred in her home state of South Dakota at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hollings Cancer Center, 86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, SC 29425.
