Elsie C Wall, 96, of Charleston, SC, formally of Syracuse, NY, entered into eternal rest on February 14, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 25, 1924 in Syracuse, NY, Elsie was a daughter of the late Harold Hooper and Florence Hooper. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 5 girls and 2 boys.
Elsie was a graduate of St. Lucy’s High School. She worked at E.W. Edwards department store as the window dresser and carried those skills through her life in how her home was decorated and the clothes she wore. Elsie worked at LeMoyne College in 1954 as the switchboard operator while her late husband, Robert F. Wall, was in the VA Hospital with TB. Once Robert returned home Elsie began as a telephone operator at the New York Telephone Company the day after her birthday in August 1955. She retired after 31 years in February 1986 from the accounting department.
Elsie enjoyed dancing, music, family celebrations, socializing, meeting people, clam digging in Rhode Island and traveling. People remember her for her quick wit, compassion and generosity. She continued to enjoy her life with the residents and caregivers at Life Care Center of Charleston, SC, they enjoyed her as much as she enjoyed their company.
Elsie is predeceased by her son, Daryl and her husband Robert F. Wall, (aka “Skinny Wall”) both of Syracuse, NY. She is survived by her son Daniel (Linda Woodford) of Charleston, SC (both formally of Syracuse), her daughter, Sue Kirpatrick Knock of Merced, CA, grandchildren Jessica Wall of Knoxville, TN and Erik Wall of Greenville, SC. Elsie is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Syracuse, NY and cousins in Detroit MI.
Elsie was feisty and though her eyesight deteriorated over the years it did not hold her back from enjoying life. With hopes that others may benefit we ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elsie`s memory may be sent to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, www.macular.org.
