Moncks Corner- Ernestine passed peacefully from this life the morning of May 31st, 2020. Ernestine was born on July 9th, 1941 in Bamberg, SC to the late David Simpson Rutland and Bertha Hughes Rutland Jones. She married Ronald Peterson on December 23rd, 1959, where they raised their only son and moved to Moncks Corner in 1976.
In addition to her husband, Ernestine is survived by her only son, Steven H. (Laura) Peterson; sisters, Lexie (Wesley) Payne, Rae Owens and Bonnie (Thomas) Bates; brothers, Dewey E. (Shirley) Jones, Jr. and Rhondelle (Karen) Rutland; grandsons, Donald C. (Amanda) McCall, Devin W. Peterson and Caison A. (Josie) Turner; Aunt Pauline Holt and Uncle George Hughes.
In addition to her parents, Ernestine was predeceased by her sisters, Frances (John) Ivey, Margie Ashbaugh, and Emma Rutland; brothers, David E. (Brenda) Rutland; Oscar B. Rutland and Heyward Rutland.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday June 2, 2020 at Gethsemane Baptist Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens.
