Eugene Ruffner 'Gene' Fischer

October 12, 1939 — October 24, 2014

Eugene R. Fischer, 75, of James Island, passed away October 24, 2014. Born in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Louis C. and Adele Fischer and husband to Frances Fischer. Gene was a member of the first graduating class of James Island High School and attended the College of Charleston. He worked for Westvaco as a chemist for thirty seven years. Mr. Fischer enjoyed playing golf, fishing and boating. Gene is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Frances H. Fischer; two daughters, Laura F. Webster and husband Pearse of Wadmalaw Island and Karen F. Orcutt and husband Michael of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Kaydren Orcutt, Cullen Orcutt and Soren Orcutt; sister, Sara F. Williams of Charleston; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte A. Fischer of Lynchburg, VA and Meta Mason of Florida. He is also survived by four nieces and two nephews. Mr. Fischer was predeceased by his brother, Louis C. Fischer, III and one niece, Martha Fischer. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00am in St. James Church, 1872 Camp Road, James Island. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
