Evelyn Froehlich Calhoun

Evelyn Mathews Froehlich Calhoun , of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Evy was born in Cincinnati, OH to Rev. J. Stanley and Margaret Mathews. She lived in Norwood, Ohio and attended Campbell Business College in Cincinnati and Franklin College in Franklin Indiana. November 18, 1945 she married Lt. John C. Froehlich and lived in Cincinnati until moving to Athens Ohio and then to Chicago (Northbrook) Illinois. In 1984, John and Evy moved to La Costa California, and then in 2005, they to moved to Charleston, SC to be near their daughter. John passed away shortly thereafter. She and John were happily married for 60 years. Evy was blessed to have found a lovely man, Rudgely M. Calhoun, and they were married for two wonderful years until he passed away in 2009. Evy is survived by Son, Peter Joseph Froehlich (Gina), of Livermore, CA; and daughter, Polly A Cillpam, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren, Jeff Froehlich, Jeremiah Cillpam (Desiree), Josiah Cillpam, Jenni Lou Ascher (Rob), Dream Wright(Carver), Thanny Cillpam, Lauren Froehlich; three great grandchildren, Joey Ascher, Ina Ascher, and Emily Ascher; sister-in-law . Ada Day, and brother-in-law; Rev. Robert Lacker. She was predeceased by her parents, and two loving husbands, John C Froehlich and Rudgely M. Calhoun. Evy was ahead of her time as she juggled a career and raising a family. In her later professional career she flourished in real estate in Chicago and in La Costa, Ca. Evy’s most important role was to be a mother and a Christian influence to her family, and others and to serve the Lord. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Association for the Blind, 1 Carriage Lane, Building A, Charleston, SC 29407, and The Mathews Prayer Garden at Kenwood Baptist Church 8341 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236.
