Frank Walter Potts

Frank Walter Potts, 85, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Frank was born April 10, 1931 in Saline County, Illinois to Joe Ezra Potts and Frieda Helen Sharp. He was the second child in the family of eight children. Frank married Eileen “Mickey” McMullen on October 9, 1954, and they have shared 62 years of marriage. Frank served his country in the U.S. Navy for 27 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from service in 1975 as a Senior Chief Boatswains Mate. His last tour of duty was at the Naval Base in Charleston, South Carolina where he was in charge of the armory and ran the base skeet range. Frank was an avid skeet shooter and former member of Partridge Creek Gun club. He is a former South Carolina State Skeet Champion, a member of the U.S. Armed Forces Skeet Team, and was inducted into the Armed Forces Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1995. Frank was the first retiree to win the Armed Forces Shoot and claimed the senior HOA (Highest Overall) World Championship in 1996. He has won four South Carolina State Championships and has served in all offices for the state skeet association. He was a national director for over 20 years. Frank was predeceased by his parents, six siblings, and his son-in-law Billy Joe Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife Eileen Potts of the home; daughters Deborah Johnson of Summerville and Cynthia (Gary) Kelley of Goose Creek; granddaughters Jessica (Reed) Goldberg of San Antonio, Texas and Shelley (Larry Schweitzer) Johnson of Plantation, Florida; great-grandsons Jack and Dash Goldberg of San Antonio, Texas; and his sister Elizabeth Sallee, of Indiana. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 18th from 5:00pm until 6:15pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek, South Carolina with a Memorial Service and Military Honors to follow.
