Frederick Melvin 'Fred' Nelson Jr.

Frederick Melvin Nelson, Jr., 79, of Pineville, SC, passed away February 18, 2016. Born in Utica, New York to the late Catherine and Frederick Melvin Nelson, Sr. He served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper. The family moved down to South Carolina in the late 1970’s and began working as an ironworker and eventually taught welding at Dorchester County Career School. However Fred’s passion was collecting and selling antiques. Another of Fred’s favorite things was to watch his grand-son, Cameron, play baseball. His family will remember him as being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Mary Jo; children, Deborah Lane Blowers and husband Richard of Kenbridge, VA, Frederick Melvin Nelson, III and wife Mindy of Pasedena, MD, Robert Lee Nelson and wife Mary Rose of Goose Creek, SC, Cheri Lorraine Nelson of Summerville, and John Nelson of Tucsan, AZ; sister, Karen Szczesniak and husband Kay of Florida; brother George Nelson of Florida; grandchildren, Rebecca Tolbert and husband Troy, Jason Williams, Cameron Rozal, Jennifer Baril and husband Brandon, Michael Blowers, Alicia Blowers, Matthew Blowers, Morgan Nelson, Brian Nelson, Julida Taylor; great-grandchildren, Kyle Foley, Troy Tolbert, Laurnea Tolbert, Mariana Tolbert, Dylan Blowers, Makayla Blowers, Ethan Blowers, Naydia Blowers, Armand Frazier, Selina Frazier, Lana Frazier, Ethan Frazier, and Skye Frazier. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 12:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel. A prayer service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm.
