Gary Michael Cottar

September 23, 1946 — June 13, 2021

Gary Michael Cottar, 74, of Isle of Palms, SC, passed away on June 13, 2021 due to complications from heart disease and injuries he received 10 years earlier, after a long career as a rodeo competitor in calf roping.

Gary started and ran Cottar Rope Co. Inc., for 36 years. He put competition ropes in the hands of many
world rodeo champions. He also started a breeding program for cutting and reining horses, until his
injury in 2010.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Marilyn Cottar. Besides his wife, Gary is survived by their three children, Russell Cottar of Fort Worth, TX, Deborah Murway of Fort Worth, TX and Stephanie Ratlif of Pangburn, AK, and one step daughter, Wendy Buckley of Isle of Palms, SC, and also six grand children.

Gary was preceeded in death by his parents, AW and Eleanor Cottar.

Gary was a gentle and quiet man and would want to be remembered for being a hand with a horse, he loved the
land and his family and leaves many people behind that will miss him.
