Major Gerald 'Jerry'Jay Miller , 72 of Goose Creek, South Carolina died on Friday, August 8, 2014, in Charleston, South Carolina. Born March 9, 1942 in Versailles, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry Miller and the late Minerva Gross Miller. Gerald 'Jerry' served with the Berkeley County Sheriff Department for over 26 years, retiring with the rank of Major and was an active SC State Constable. He was a graduate of the following: FBI National Academy, SC Criminal Justice Academy and held a degree in Criminology and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason. He served honorably in the United States Navy which included active duty during the Vietnam Conflict. Gerald had the privilege of serving on the President's Flagship during the Cuban Missile Crisis and personally presented a film, the documentary, The Trials of Nuremberg to President John F. Kennedy. He was a member of Northwood Church and had served as a volunteer with the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department. Gerald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol McCloskey Miller of Goose Creek; son, David K, Miller of Goose Creek, daughter, Debbie Singer (Mike) of Goose Creek; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Boswell Miller of Goose Creek, brother, David L. Miller of Moncks Corner, eight grandchildren; Joshua and Julia Miller, Allen Miller, Kevin Miller and Jessica Miller-Kuchta, Chad, Benjamin and Andrew Singer, neice and nephew; Kelly McCloskey-Garrett and Zack Miller. Beloved daschund; Ruby Gurl. He is preceded in death by son, Scott Alan Miller, two grandchildren; Grace and Eve Miller. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, from 6pm to 8pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC. Funeral Services to be held 11 AM, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC.
