Gertrude Green

Trudy Green, 84, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, died peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2017. Trudy was born on April 16, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Morris and Lillian Schwartz. She married the love of her life, Abraham “Abe” Green, in 1953, after meeting the bass singer in the New York All City Chorus, for which Trudy sang first soprano. She and Abe moved to San Francisco, Boise, and Kansas City, finally making their home in Columbus, Ohio in 1956. Trudy was involved with community theater and loved to sing, particularly to Barbra Streisand. She also spent many years with B’nai Brith Women and was an excellent bowler. She was an accomplished seamstress and outstanding cook. Trudy moved to Florida after Abe’s untimely death in 1986, where she began her career with Vi Living, formally Hyatt. She ultimately transferred to South Carolina and worked as an assistant to the director of TidePointe in Hilton Head for 15 years before retiring to Charleston at age 82. Trudy will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jeff Green of Fort Lauderdale, and daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Steve Meyer of Charleston. She was adored by five grandchildren, Katie Geer (Lyles), Grace and Catherine Meyer, Alyse and Brandon Green, as well as three great grandchildren, Asher and Zavyer Green and Mary Lyles Geer. She is additionally survived by her sister Anita Rafkin of Tampa, Florida and many adoring nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Trudy for the last 5 months from Roper-St. Francis Hospital, Hospice of Charleston, Summit House of Daniel Island, Vibra Hospital and Sandpiper Nursing Center. A private celebration of Trudy’s life was held in Charleston, SC on October 27th. A final inurnment will be held, Friday, December 15, 2017 at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 5600 E Broad St, Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Charleston at www.hospiceofcharleston.com. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted to www.mcalister-smith.com.
