Gwendolyn Mabel Vaughan, 84, of Summerville, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2014. Gwen was born on October 30, 1929, in Nova Scotia, Canada, a daughter of the late Henry Wood and Mabel Wood Wood. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Her hobbies included modern western square dancing, crocheting and making crafts for church bazaars, working with Helping Hands and with the Girl Scouts. She was also involved with PTA. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a special love for children. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by 3 brothers, John Wood, Robert Wood and Gordon Wood; 2 sisters, Alice Merrill and Clara Wood. Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, John Vaughan, of Summerville; 2 daughters, Carol Clayton and her husband, Mark of Greenville, SC and Karen Allen and her husband, David of Houston, TX; 1 sister, Verona Brown of NH; 7 grandchildren, Dixie McClure and her husband, Ryan, of GA, Erik Johnstone of NV, Ryan Allen and his wife, Shirley, of TX, Douglas Clayton and his wife, Jenny, of KS, Lindsey Dukes and her husband, Billy, of TX, Drew Clayton and his wife, Stephanie, of SC and Kimberly Johnstone of MA; 2 great grandsons, John Dukes of TX and Hunter Allard of TX and 1 great granddaughter, Ilana Clayton of KS. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Nicholas Capetola will be officiating. Burial will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek, SC.
