Janith Joann Hedrick

Janith Joann Hedrick, 82, of Mount Pleasant, SC; wife of John Thad Hedrick for 60 years, entered into eternal rest on April 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Jan was the glue that held her family together and provided for their needs during her entire life.
Born on September 3,1938 in Paradise, Kansas, Jan was the daughter of the late A. E. (Rod) Rodgers and Freda Van Diest Rodgers.
Growing up in Paradise, Kansas, she was a star basketball player, scoring a record 50 points in a game. She graduated from the University of Kansas where she was president of her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. After graduation, she worked as a speech therapist before her marriage to John. Jan lived in Atlanta for 50 years where she was a homemaker, with a 10-year career as a graphic artist and administrative assistant at Unisys. She served the Atlanta community in many ways and in her church as a long time member of the Holy Innocents Alter Guild. She was a 10 year volunteer at the Community Assistance Center in Sandy Springs and leader of one of their food pantry teams.
Jan was a serious gardener and 15 year co-chair of the Spalding Garden Club Butterfly Garden. In addition to gardening, she was an avid wood worker. Combining her skills, she built countless "stone bird houses" for garden clubs, churches and other fundraisers.
Besides her husband John, Jan is survived by her son Graham and her daughter Sarah Kearney (Patrick). Also surviving are three grandchildren, Patrick Kearney, Meghan Kearney, Bryce Kearney and her brother, John Rodgers.
The family will receive friends between 3 PM and 5 PM on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
Funeral service will be held May 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth St. Charleston SC, 29401.
The burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jan's memory may be sent to Alzheimer's Association at www.act.alz.org or Community Assistance Center www.ourcac.org.
