John. F. Walter

July 19, 1958 — December 7, 2015

Marine Corps Captain John Frishmuth Walter, 57, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at his home in Goose Creek, SC. He was born on July 19, 1958 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Dawes and Molly Walter. John grew up in Doylestown, PA. and Wilton, CT, attended the American School of London, and graduated from George School in 1977 and Alfred University in 1981, where he served as President of the Student Senate. He joined the Marine Corps as a Second Lt. and after retirement was promoted to Major. Specializing in infantry and intelligence fields, John served in various staff and command positions at many posts around the world. In Guam, where he led the Marine Guard for the American base, he met his future wife, Monet Reyes. In 1990, when he was posted at Quantico, VA, he and Monet were married. After his service in the Marine Corps, he worked in sales and landscape design until he launched his own business in 2007, LowCountry OneCall in the Charleston, SC area. Over the next decade, he worked diligently to expand his contractor referral business into the surrounding states. He also shared his time and talents as a volunteer, for the Charleston VA Hospital and the American Red Cross. His local memberships included the Charleston Parks & Recreation, Charleston Horticultural Society, the Carolina Film Alliance, and the Lowcountry chapter of the Marine Corps League. John was a talented artist throughout his life. While living in London as a high school student, he had his work displayed at the American Embassy. John would say he was most peaceful when he had his hands in the dirt, so with that passion, he studied horticulture and shared his love of watching things grow. He enjoyed driving cars, rock music, exploring nature in his kayak with his camera, and owned his favorite dog breed, the Boxer for many years. In the last few years, he studied painting and enjoyed creating his family home's outdoor retreat. He refused to slow down and was passionate in every direction he took. Married to Monet for 25 years, John was dedicated to his family and loved sharing time with them. He is survived by his wife, Monet; daughters, Michelle and Mimi; his devoted stepmother, Bernice Walter, of Southbury, CT; sisters Amy Walter and husband Allan Orski, of Ponte Vedra, FL, Julie van der Kroef and husband Adrian of Newtown, CT., Jann Lichty of Santa Cruz, CA; brother Steve Lichty and wife Megan of Georgetown ,MA; and nieces Lindsay, Lily, Erin, Paige, and Jessica; nephew Tyler; second cousins Jonathan, Juliane, and cousins Joshua Brown and wife Stephani, and Maggie Brown Dilley and husband John.
