John H Plate

John H Plate, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born on Thursday, November 8, 1928 in Bronx, NY to the late Mrs. Emma Plate and the late Mr. Henry J. Plate. John was a graduate of Hofstra University, NY, and he went on to a 44 year career with Consolidated Edison (ConEd) rising from a field electrician to Procurement Manager. Additionally, John served over 20 years in the United States Air Force, on active duty in Berlin in 1961. Captain Plate completed his service in the Air National Guard and the Reserve of the United States Air Force. One of John’s greatest joys was sailing his boat “Ragtime” on the Long Island Sound in most any weather conditions. His family will remember him as a loving husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He is survived by his loving Wife of 14 years, Lillian Martha Plate, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Step-Sons; Mark Brower (Natalia), of Oldbridge, NJ, and Steven Brower (Kathleen), of Johns Island, SC; four grandchildren, Beverly, Marisa, Andrew, and Paul; three great grandchildren, Emily, Dylan and Amanda; and many loving friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, June Steinert Plate. A Memorial Service will be held at Franke at Seaside on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island, NY.
