John Henry Newton, 66, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016. He was born on Tuesday, July 26, 1949 in Charleston, SC to the late Henrietta Kirkland Newton and John L Newton. John served in the United States Air Force for six years. He was a Vietnam Vet. John’s passions were gardening, riding motorcycles and travelling. His family will remember him as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Besides his mother, John is preceded in death by his grandparents, George L. and Rena H. Newton; and Henry and Maggie Mae Kirkland. John is survived by his loving wife of ten years, Sandra Levine Newton of Charleston, SC; his stepson, James Tiso (Ann Marie) of Charleston, SC; two stepdaughters: Christine Bucia (Edward) of Charleston, SC and Juliet Kalat of Bristol, CT; seven grandchildren; his stepmother, Mary R. Newton of Cottageville, SC; two brothers: George Newton (Betsy) of Conway, AR and David Newton (Mel) of Port St. Lucie, FL; a sister, Linda N. Gee (Charles) of Columbia, SC; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 269 Calhoun St, Charleston, SC 29401.
