John William Lindsay

John W. Lindsay, 94, of Charleston, SC, died on Monday, 30 March 2015. He was born in Washington DC on 6 January 1921 and graduated from Eastern High School. His military career was in the Army Air Corps, where he was a B-29 pilot. He was shot down over Germany, captured on 17 October 1944, and was held in a Prisoner of War Camp Luft 3 in Poland until the end of the war. He was married to Ann Tipton of Washington DC in 1952 and they worked in their golf business in Greenville, South Carolina, until they retired to Charleston, South Carolina in 1985. His wife died on 3 November 2007 after they were together for more than 50 years and his brother, Reis, died in 2009. John is survived by his nephew, John C. Lindsay, great nephew, Zachary C. Lindsay, sister in law, Dottie, of Charleston, South Carolina, as well as nieces and nephews of his wife, Ann Lindsay. His extremely capable and kind caregiver, Maka, made his living alone in his own home possible for many years. All funeral arrangements will be private.
