Katherine A 'Kathy' Schlechta (Alexander)

Katherine “Kathy” A. Schlechta, 71, of Charleston, SC, passed away on April 9, 2015 She was born on Monday, December 13, 1943, in Los Angeles, CA a daughter of the late Irene Olson Alexander and the late George Alexander. She called Sauk Rapids, MN her home prior to moving to Charleston. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Joseph J Schlechta, Sr., of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by two sons: Joseph Schlechta and his wife, Leigh of Johns Island, SC and Clark Schlechta of James Island, SC; four grandchildren: Clark Schlechta, Jr., Kristen Schlechta, Sadie Schlechta and Parker Schlechta; two cousins: Paul and Dale Olson of Minnesota; and her “adopted” daughter, Diana Londergan and her family of Summerville, SC. She also leaves behind her three beloved cats. Kathy was a devoted animal lover. She is a former board member of the SPCA, as well as a member of multiple animal rights organizations. She was an avid reader. Her family remembers her as strong-willed, but very loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 12, 2015, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC.
