Kathleen Owings Kolaski

October 2, 1948 — May 6, 2020

Kathleen Owings Kolaski, 71, of Johns Island, SC, wife to Steven Kolaski of 49 years, entered into eternal rest on May 6, 2020, quietly at home. 

Born on October 2, 1948 in Port Arthur, TX, Kathy was a daughter of the late James Blakely Owings and Ruth Langseth Owings of Woodville, Texas.

Kathy attended Florida State University for 2 years prior to being selected for the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing (WRAIN) Program. After graduating in 1970 and serving 3 years of active duty, she became an Army Nurse Corps Reservist, retiring at the rank of Major in 1989. She earned her MSN in Nursing from Emory University in 1977 and had a 40 year career in Public Health Nursing and Nursing Education. At the end of that career, Kathy was a Public Health State
Office Consultant for the State of Georgia and served as Vice President and later President of the National TB Nurses Association.

Besides her husband, Kathy is survived by sons Andrew and Matthew of Charleston, SC and daughter Kristen LeRoux of Atlanta, GA, eight grandchildren and siblings Marcia Owings of Black Mountain, NC; Jim Owings of Dahlonega, GA and Ruth Owings McAtee of Jackson, GA.

Internment will be at the Beaufort National Military Cemetery in Beaufort, SC with military honors. All services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kathy`s memory may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Folds of Honor.
