Kathy M. Cook (Moore)

November 29, 1962 — July 27, 2016

Kathy M. Cook, 53, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 24, 2016. She was born on Thursday, November 29, 1962 in Spur, TX to Mrs. Vera Moore and the late Mr. John Hayden Moore. Kathy loved life, living it to the fullest, cherishing family and friends above all else. Kathy grew up in Hale Center, TX, a daughter of educators, she valued schooling at an early age, graduating Salutatorian of her Hale Center, TX High School class. Growing up a Texan, she loved riding horses with her father, Coach, on the ranch, playing clarinet in her high school band and draining her jump shot as point guard on their basketball team. She spent childhood summers in Lillington, NC with loving family, fireflies, and the ocean’s enduring tranquility. Two years after graduating from Texas Tech in 1985, Kathy married Creighton, left Texas but Texas never left her. Moving to Northern California, she enjoyed hot chowder on the cold foggy wharf, sailing around San Francisco Bay on a windy afternoon, and playing her piano. The next stop was Altus, OK, bringing new wonderful friends, Texas family she deeply loved across the Red River Valley, and most importantly the life altering birth of twins, Katie & Ashley. Her lifelong dream and most important thing to her in the world, being a loving and dedicated Mom, began. In 1994, the plains flowed into the Atlantic surf, Kathy moved to Charleston for the first time. From the moment she felt sand between her toes, Kathy absolutely fell in love with the Lowcountry. Anytime of year, you could find her at IOP, twins in tow, covered in sunscreen or sweatshirts, listening to Hootie on the sandy beach. Then in 1998 came the Garden State, where Kathy ushered Ethan into the world, and soon after, a three year tour in Stuttgart, Germany. Kathy loved cultures, language, and traveling, so with her dearest family complete, her life was an idyllic postcard, whether on a horse drawn sleigh in the snowy Bavarian Alps, lost in the vast Scottish Highlands, or dipping in the blue tranquil waters of Cinque Terre. In 2001, the family’s European adventure touched down in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where after 20 patriotic years as an incredible Air Force Mom, she doubled down on loving, nurturing, and educating her children. She was the rock. Dependable, steadfast, with strong Texan values. At home and through countless sport teams, piano lessons, classrooms K through 12, she was omnipresent in the kids’ lives. Every classroom, every activity, she was there, eagerly inspiring her own children and helping all others around her. Forever passionate about music, she especially enjoyed volunteering for Cario and Wando bands, which to this day have enriched her children's lives a hundred fold. Kathy will live with us forever as her three amazing children are a beacon of her best qualities. Kathy loved being a Mom, and carried her distinct nurturing, caring life force to all her friends and family. She made time for anyone, anytime, anywhere; striving to make a positive difference in each person’s life she crossed paths with. She was a strong, strong woman. She cared. Remember Kathy on a boat at Caper’s Island, under a blue sky and Carolina sun, salty breeze in her hair, and a perpetual smile on her face. Surrounded by her family, she collects a million shells in her bucket, each one’s unique beauty touching her soul. She laughs as her beloved dog Charlie splashes through a tide pool beside her, then gazes at the eternal sea, the surf's calming rhythm is calling her to heaven. Music in the soul can be heard by the universe, Kathy Cook's shining spirit and moving vibrato will resonate in all our hearts forever. She is survived by her Mother, Vera Moore of Lillington, NC; husband of 30 years, Creighton William Cook Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Creighton Ethan Cook, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Ashley Victoria Cook and Katie MacArthur Cook, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Sister, Ann Moore Cochran; and many loving friends. She was predeceased by her father, John Hayden Moore. A Celebration of Life will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt.
