Lawrence M Jolluck

March 31, 1939 — November 12, 2019

Lawrence (Larry) Jolluck died peacefully on November 12, 2019. He was born March 31, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Stanley A. Jolluck and Virginia May (Allyn).

Larry graduated from the Marist College (High School) Class of 1957. While at Marist, he was a member of the basketball team, but excelled as an All-State athlete in football and member of the 440yd Relay State record breaking team. He received a scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina and played quarterback for the Gamecocks before graduating in 1961 with BA in Real Estate. Following graduation he served as a US Naval Airman and Onboard Navigator in the Vietnam War. He served Pacific tours onboard the USS Hornet and USS Yorktown aircraft carriers. He was a Centurion Club member with over 100 landings on the Yorktown and awarded three medals of service. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve in Atlanta until his retirement in 1993 as Lieutenant Commander. After his military career he worked in real estate and property management and was a loyal contractor for the Muntzing-Sattele Company in Atlanta, GA for many years. He is fondly remembered as owner of the Harp & The Pendulum Pub at early Underground Atlanta and a supporter of Dante’s Down the Hatch.

While stationed near Saint Simon’s, Georgia, he met Margaret (Gayle) Smith of Claxton, Georgia and was married to the love of his life on December 21, 1968. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Margaret, and daughter Kelly Hatch.  He is survived by sister-in-law Marion Hughes of Marietta, GA and brother William (Billy) Jolluck of Hampton, GA; loving children including daughter Merry Preiditsch and husband Rob, of Charleston, SC, daughter Stephanie Jolluck and Gio Rossilli of Antigua, Guatemala and son Michael and Lindsey of Marietta, GA; six adoring grandchildren RJ, Josh and Bethany Hatch, Cole and Georgia Preiditsch and Addison Jolluck.

To know “Lorenzo” was to love him. He was unceasingly selfless and loving. He devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was happiest in his vegetable garden, his Tennessee mountain home, at a Mexican restaurant and travelling—including a special fondness for Guatemala, its people and culture.  Larry and Gayle were famous for their uncanny knack of finding and collecting interesting antiques & collectibles.

His fight with cancer took his life, but never took his spirit or toughness. We are all in awe of him. We love you Papa Grande!
