Louis Michael Egan

June 13, 1963 — March 18, 2014

Louis Michael Egan passed away at his home in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the age of 50. Preceded in death by his parents, Vanita Egan and Louis Egan, he is survived by his sister; Elizabeth S. McKinnon, Daniel Island, SC and his brother; Thomas S. Egan (Michelle) of Weddington, NC; his nephews and niece; Cayce Egan, Camden Egan, Evan McKinnon and Lilly Egan; as well as many more loving family members and friends. Lou was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on June 13, 1963. He spent much of his youth overseas, and graduated from Kubasaki High School, Okinawa, Japan in 1981. He eventually settled in Charleston, SC and began a four-year apprenticeship-training program at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, receiving his certification as a nuclear sheet metal mechanic in 1989. While working primarily on nuclear submarines, Lou received several awards for his accomplishments in both the academic and practical applications of his skills. In 1993 he began his career with Carotek, Inc. as a manufacturers’ representative selling process control equipment. Lou called on major industries in the Carolinas including power, pulp and paper, chemical, and textile mills. In 1999 Lou combined his knowledge of sheet metal mechanics and manufacturing sales to establish Egan Brothers Inc. and Down Under Directional Boring, specializing in utility construction and custom metal fabrication. As president of Egan Brothers, Inc. and Down Under Directional Boring, Lou built his company into a leader in the industry and developed a reputation as a highly regarded and respected businessman. Lou was a kind, strong, intelligent, man who always wore a smile and lit up every room he entered. He touched many lives and hearts with his love, his laughter, his generosity, and his infectious zest for life. His joyful spirit, thoughtfulness, kind heart and larger-than-life personality will be greatly missed. Louis Michael Egan - brother, uncle, nephew and friend - will forever hold a place in many, many hearts. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC (843) 884-3833.
