Mabel Eugenia Brockenfelt

Mabel Eugenia Brockenfelt, 91, of Summerville, SC, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015. She was born on Saturday, May 31, 1924 in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late Julia Mastin Gates and the late Wyatt Blanton Gates. Mabel was a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, working in her yard, and taking care of her family. Her family remembers her as a loving and gracious wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Besides her parents, Mabel is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Gerald Brockenfelt; three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Gerald 'Jerry' E. Brockenfelt and his wife, Edna, of Summerville, SC; her daughter, Linda B. Lee and her husband, Ed, of James Island, SC; four grandchildren: Cindy Graack and her husband, Brian, of James Island, SC; Kevin Lee and his wife, Kristi, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Eric Brockenfelt and his wife, Kylie, of Durham, NC and Christopher Brockenfelt and his wife, Jennifer, of Winterville, NC; nine great-grandchildren: Leanna and Christopher Graack; Ethan and Hayden Brockenfelt; Brady and Dylan Lee; and Annsley, Aubrey and Ada Brockenfelt; and one brother, Melvin Gates of NC. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 10:00am to 11:00am at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel, with Rev. S. Thomas Kingsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Live Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
