Major (Retired) Richard W. Ward

Major (Retired) Richard William Ward, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest with his wife by his side on Sunday, September 13, 2015. He was born on April 25, 1958 in Fort Belvoir, VA to Mrs. Eileen Cecilia Welch Ward and the late Colonel (Retired) William Donald Ward. Richard was a graduate of The University of Notre Dame, a Retired Major from the U.S. Army, and a member of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church. He was a Senior Analyst at Calibre in Alexandria, VA for over 12 years. Richard was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He enjoyed baseball, football and golf. His family will remember him as a fun-loving husband, friend and father. He is survived by his loving wife; Marie L. Ward, Mt. Pleasant, SC; Mother, Eileen Cecilia Welch Ward, of Alexandria, VA; brother, Lawrence Ward (Natalie); of Reston, VA; sister, Christine Ward (Frank), of Alexandria,VA; Eight children, One step-son, Steven W. Clarke; Four sons, Captain (Army) Ryan J. Ward, William J. Ward, Second Lieutenant (Army) Connor M. Ward, Patrick C. Ward; Three daughters, Caitlin E. Ward, Megan C. Ward, and Shannon P. Ward; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his furry best friend, Stewie. A Funeral Service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.
