Martha Ann Christina Nolen

Martha Ann Christina Nolen, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina passed away on, Sunday, May 28, 2017.

She was born on December 3, 1940 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, daughter of the late Marguerite Hartnett Nolen and the late Michael Nolen.

After graduating from Bishop England High School, Christina joined the Order of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy. After leaving the Order, she pursued an educational career as a French instructor and a guidance counselor. Before settling down in Charleston to raise a family, she traveled all over Europe, with France being her favorite. Christina retired in 2003, and spent her time enjoying her grandchildren and raising her Italian greyhounds. Her family will remember her as a strong-willed spirited lady, who loved her family more than anything.

She is survived by her son, Shane Nolen and his wife, Aarun; two grandchildren: Grace and Abigail Nolen and her sister, Maude Johnson all of Charleston, SC.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.

Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Charleston, South Carolina.
