Michael Hurd Jr.

January 10, 1962 — August 20, 2016

Michael Hurd Jr. passed on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Born in Greenville, SC on 1/10/62, Michael was the son of the late Michael Hurd Sr. and late Anne Johnstone Hurd. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Hurd, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Sister, Jennifer Hurd Roberts, of Charleston, SC; Brother, Paul Stuart Hurd, of Charleston, SC; four children, Samantha Paige Hurd, Courtney Lee Hurd, Grayson Michael Hurd, and Elizabeth Anne Newbauer-Hurd; and many loving friends. It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we have to say goodbye to such a great father, husband, and friend. His infectious laugh, smile, witticisms, and positive attitude made him the special person we all were so privileged to have shared a part of our lives with. He was a happy person and gave the best hugs of anyone around. He was the anchor for gathering family and friends together to enjoy a good meal, his Annual Oyster Roast/BBQ, or just a regular “Sunday Funday.” We will never forget all the great times we had and good deeds he did for those around him, his community, and all the lives he’s touched. During Michael’s career he served as a volunteer firefighter, a paramedic, a property manager, and most recently he was the General Manager for Park West Subdivision in Mount Pleasant, SC. He held two community association management certifications; Certified manager of community associations, Association management specialist. He had great passion for his work and worked hard to serve his community well; he always made a positive difference in people’s lives. Professionally, Mike finally found his niche and his family is proud of his many contributions he made to improve and develop his Park West community. Mike had several hobbies that mostly involved things he did for his family, for his friends and neighbors, or taking pride in his home. He loved cooking and could often be found in the kitchen with a towel over his shoulder creating his next masterpiece to share. He was an excellent cook, did most of the cooking at home, and was probably best known for his famous BBQ. He was always inviting family and friends over for food and fun. He also loved music, singing, gardening, and last but not least, his favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles. So many great memories have been made and will be treasured that involve his love for his family and friends, cooking, music, singing, laughing, etc. Mike, you will truly be missed by your family as you were such a loving father and husband. Your many friends will also have heavy hearts while still remembering all the good times we were fortunate enough to have with you. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, a part of us went with you the day God called you home. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church, 2304 Highway 17 N, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00pm with The Reverend Jim Workman officiating.
