Opal Gaines Tobin (Gaines)

Opal G. Tobin, 81, wife of Ranger John L. Tobin, Sr., of James Island, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015. Mrs. Tobin was born on September 5, 1933 in Charleston, SC to the late Thomas J. Gaines and the late Rosa Benton Gaines. She was a retired administrative assistant in the Chemistry Department at The Citadel. In addition to her husband of 62 years, she is survived by two sons, John L. Tobin, Jr. and Stephen G. Tobin, of James Island. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith, James Island Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at McAlister-Smith, James Island Chapel. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
