Phillip Sypress Johnson

Phillip Sypress Johnson, 93, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Phil was born in 1927 in Detroit, MI, to the late Alvin Bernhard Johnson and Pearl Elaine Johnson.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Valera Johnson; and his sister, Carol Main.

He is survived by son Thomas Johnson, and wife Marie Johnson, their children Andy Levy and Allison Johnson, granddaughter Nina Janssen, and husband Jonah Janssen; daughter, Katherine Biltz and grandson Austin Biltz, along with several nieces and nephews.

Phil met Alice at Western Michigan University, from which they graduated and then moved to Battle Creek to begin their life together. Phil working at Kellogg's and Alice teaching kindergarten. Phil's career with Kellogg's led them to Brazil and Jamaica where he had great success creatively building manufacturing enterprises. He settled in Sarasota, Florida, where he opened a travel agency. Phil worked tirelessly throughout his long career in business. His unique skills in marketing built highly successful operations, and his attention to detail and ability to adapt to foreign environments lead to many years managing important companies.

Phil enjoyed golf, a good bottle of wine and travel. Phil also spent countless hours studying the family genealogy and helped others do the same.

The family asks that Phil be kept in his friends' prayers. The family will celebrate his memory in the future.
