Reoma Jill Johnson

December 23, 1939 — April 17, 2019

Resting and rejoicing in the arms of Jesus, Jill was called to her heavenly home on April 17th, 2019.

Jill was born on a snowy December 23, 1939 morning in Dillon, SC to the late George Tillman Soles and the late Mary Ellen Norris Soles.

Jill graduated from Tabor City High School in 1958 and moved to Charleston where she quickly found work at Southern Bell as an operator. Jill was stunningly beautiful and soon caught the eye of the love of her life, Sidney Johnson at a YMCA dance. Sidney and Jill were married June 6, 1959 in Hampton Park Baptist Church.

Jill had a servant’s heart and she loved her family unconditionally. She possessed a gift for helping others by simply listening, and being there when it counted. To her family she was their rock, mentor, inspiration, as well as a precious wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law, granny, and aunt. Jill was involved in her children and grandchildren’s activities such as sports, stage productions, and anywhere they were, she was going to be.

Jill loved children and she would substitute teach, volunteer in her children’s schools, impacting many as a teacher’s assistant at Linda O’Quinn’s and James Island Presbyterian Church School. Jill loved her church where she was an active member since 1967, serving as a long -time church volunteer in the nursery, kitchen, women’s circle, cookies for Veterans, and countless visits to the sick.

Jill loved life, and lived it with zeal, and her contagious laugh would bring anyone joy. She loved days at Folly Beach, tending a bountiful garden, listening to Phantom of the Opera, and going on long car rides. We know she had to leave us and she has prepared us to meet her when the Lord calls us home.

Jill was preceded in death by her loving husband Elmer Sidney Johnson, Jr., son Bryan Kevin Johnson, daughters Angela Marie Johnson and Lisa Marie Johnson. Brothers Fred, Wiley, Ray, Earl Soles, Sister Ethel Soles McGee. Surviving her are one sister, Carolyn Soles Turlich, daughters Cheri Johnson McElwee(Matthew), Pamela Johnson Yarborough(Todd), Son Elmer Sidney Johnson III. Grandchildren Melissa McElwee, Keri Walker(Spencer), Holly McConnell(James), Paul Yarborough, Bradley Yarborough, Casey Johnson, Lolly Johnson, Beth Johnson. Great grands Skyler, Elizabeth, and Isabelle.
