Richard Warren 'Rick' Hollar

March 24, 1946 — June 10, 2014

Richard Warren Hollar, 68, of Johns Island passed away June 10, 2014. Rick was born March 24, 1946 in Hickory North Carolina, a son of the late Howard Richard Hollar and Arevia Mae Warren Hollar. Rick served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam conflict as a SeaBee and received an honorable discharge on completion of service. He was a member of Stono Baptist Church and was a Master Carpenter. Rick was also a member of American Legion Post 147 and the VFW post 445 on James Island and was an avid supporter of Courageous Kidz and Legionnaires for Kids. His family remembers him as a very generous, caring and understanding person. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Susan Hollar and one sister, Millie Jean Hollar. Rick is survived by one son, Gary Hollar and his wife Lisa of Hickory, NC; one daughter, Angela Hollar Cook and her husband Paul of Johns Island; step-son, Michael Buenting of Johns Island and step-daughter, Heather Levy and her husband Robert of Ravenel; two grandchildren, Arevia Hollar and Emily Hollar Morrow; two brothers, Lonnie Hollar and his wife Kay of Hickory, NC and Kenneth Hollar and his wife Faye of Salisbury, NC and one sister, Luanne Sims of Conover, NC Memorial donations may be made to Courageous Kidz, 230 Old Dominion Dr, North Charleston, SC 29418.
