Robert Ernest 'Bob' Davis Sr.

August 12, 1937 — July 23, 2015

.Robert (Bob) Ernest Davis, 77, of Edisto Island, SC, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015. He was a 20-year survivor of lymphoma before a final return of the disease a year ago. He will be remembered fondly for his wit and humor and for his support of the underdog. He had a love of technology and mechanics and was always ready to explain gadgets to all around. He was always keeping up with “the latest” in everything; he also kept a “back-up supply” of his favorite things. He was born on August 12, 1937, in Thomasville, NC, a son of the late Hazel Kennedy Davis and the late Ernest Abner Davis. He graduated from NC State University in 1959 with a BS in Textiles. He spent a long career in the Textiles Industry, highlighted with his role as VP of Product Development for Sara Lee Hosiery. Bob and his wife, Betty, retired to Edisto Island in 1998. Bob was a past member of the Lion’s Club and a founder and volunteer for Frespace, an organization supporting Edisto Beach State Park. He also was a founding member of Edisto Island Home Mission Team. Up to the time of his death, he was an active volunteer at Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area and the Food Pantry and Roper St. Francis Hospital. For many years, he was the Treasurer at his church, Edisto Island United Methodist Church, and President and Treasurer of the Fishing Creek Property Owners Association. To all who knew him, he was a kind and caring friend, always willing to help out in any situation. He loved the creek life with all of its serene and peaceful beauty and activities – boating, crabbing, fishing and sunset watching. He particularly enjoyed the birds that came to the feeders he kept supplied for them. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Betty, of Edisto Island, SC; his daughter, Janet Davis of Potomac, MD; his son, Robert Davis Jr. of Wake Forest, NC; his step-daughter, Elizabeth Sandstrom of Atlanta, GA; his stepson, Franklin Guerrero of Greenville, SC; and seven grandchildren. Besides his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his three brothers: Donald, Lewis and Craig Davis, and his first wife, Joanne Hallman Davis. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Edisto Island United Methodist Church, 8193 Palmetto Road, Edisto Island, SC 29438, with the Rev. Kevin Stroop officiating.
