Robert Holbert Newman

Robert Holbert Newman, Jr., 85, of Charleston, SC, died on February 5, 2014 at his residence. Bob was born on July 17, 1928, in Charleston, a son of the late Katie Lee Richardson Newman and the late Robert H Newman Sr. Bob served in the United States Marine Corp from 1950 to 1951. Bob was the former owner and operator of Newman's Heating and Air Conditioning for 45 years. He was a former member of the Elks Club. His family remembers him as a loving husband, father and grandfather, always ready to help when needed. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Newman Garvin. Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Christine Benton Newman of Charleston; two sons, John “Skipper” Newman of Summerville and Robert “Terry” Newman of Johns Island; one daughter, Brenda Garvin of Charleston; one sister, Cel Patterson of Portland, Oregon; seven grandchildren: Rhonda Garvin Boyer (Vince) of Johns Island, Kenneth Garvin of Wadmalaw, Andy Garvin (Kerrie) of Summerville, Tanya Garvin Howard (James) of Johns Island, Julie Jacques of Summerville, Ryan Newman of Summerville and Shane Newman of Summerville; and nine great-grandchildren: Ragan Boyer Frick (Ryan) of Greenville, Jeffrey Boyer of Johns Island, Kimberly Garvin of Johns Island, Bradley Howard of Johns Island, Brianna Howard of Johns Island, Tyler Garvin of Summerville, Kaylee Garvin of Summerville, Bryce Frutos of Summerville and Autumn Jacques of Summerville. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 1PM to 2PM at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. A graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at Live Oak Mausoleum.
