Ruth Irene Robbins

April 18, 1937 — February 27, 2017

Born April 18, 1937 in Saint Louis MO, Ruth Robbins passed away peacefully on February 27th 2017, surrounded by her devoted husband Richard of 54 years and her two daughters, Becky and Beth.

Ruth was the daughter of William and Blanche Girard of Saint Louis MO.

Surviving besides her Husband and daughters are: grandchildren Piper, Genevieve, and Sebastian. Her brother Tom of Utah sadly passed in 2001. She also leaves behind the family pet, Greta, a red Doberman who will also sadly miss her. Her daughter Becky resides in Texas, and her daughter Beth is married to Paul and reside in North Carolina.

Academically, Ruth attended and graduated University of Missouri with a Bachelors in History and Education. She followed the Mizzou sports teams every year as if she was still on-campus.

In her younger days, Ruth was known to be a solid tennis player and avid gardener who was known to make great gourmet meals from the vegetables she grew in her own garden. A little known secret is that Ruth was in a bowling league and she would bowl every week with her friends in Saint Louis. It was widely known amongst her friends that she was a natural bowler and she enjoyed it immensely.

Ruth and Richard decided to retire in the Charleston area to enjoy all the areas attractions, cultural events and be part of the local historical preservation society.
For many years they participated in the Charleston society activities to immense themselves in the history and culture of the region.

Ruth was very active in the Charleston and Mount Pleasant East Cooper Women’s Club, amongst other affiliations. She spent her leisure time reading, gardening, enjoying the family pets and enjoying the outdoor bird sanctuary. Traveling across the US and France, Ruth was a global thinker with varied interests. Her love of sports was constant throughout her life, and when there wasn’t a game on TV, she could always find pleasure in watching classic movies. Many late evenings were spent playing cards with family, telling stories, and enjoying the company of her family, while she clearly demonstrated her superior card counting skills to all.

Her friends will certainly miss the Bridge card game table discussions where more than likely she would entertain her friends with humor, and candidness.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be hosted by her daughters Becky and Beth on Friday March 3rd.
