Ruth M Scruggs

Ruth McDonald Scruggs, age 87 of Summerville, passed away December 13, 2020 due to complications of COVID 19. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Tommy L Scruggs.

Born in Choctaw County, (Riderwood) Alabama on June 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Howard C and Florence Reece McDonald.

Soon after her birth Ruth moved with her parents to Meridian, Mississippi and remained there until her marriage in 1957. She and her husband eventually moved to Gulfport, Mississippi and lived there for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Ruth was a spirited, intelligent woman who had a passionate love for Jesus and music. She had a wonderful witty sense of humor. At the age of 50, she enrolled in a two-year nursing program. Upon completion of her studies she received the highest score awarded on the Mississippi State Board Exam for the year she graduated.

Ruth was extremely proud of her Scottish heritage and she was a dedicated genealogist. She was active in several genealogical groups and a long-time member of The Clan Donald Society.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Tanner, Kathy Overcash (Alan), granddaughter, Jessica Tanner and grandson David Overcash. She is also survived by several extended family members.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:00am at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Highway 17A, Moncks Corner, South Carolina
