Sandra Riesberg

Sandra "Sandy" Reed Riesberg, 66, of Charleston, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019, following a brief, but complicated, illness.

Sandy spent her life as a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, friend, and educator. Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, she was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Peabody College and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the College of Charleston. She taught many students across Charleston County and worked alongside her devoted husband, Bill, at Riesberg Architects, LLC for many years. Sandy enjoyed traveling and exploring cities around the country, reading a good book, sailing, vacationing to the mountains, spending time with family, and teaching children the wonders of learning something new.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Riesberg, her parents, Jack M. Reed and Frances B. Reed, and an infant grandchild, Sullivan M. Riesberg.

She is survived by her children, Brooke R. Riesberg (fiancé Carl), Niki R. Grimball (Michael), Buffy A. Gillespie (Matt), and Brian W. Riesberg (Aleta); grandchildren William, Michael, Stone, Annie, Lauren, and Adam; and by her sister, Karen Reed-Wright (Jim) and nieces Peyton Lambton (Chris), Tammy Hathaway (Bob) and nephew Steve Hess (Rachel).

In celebration of Sandy's life, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Book Angels Charleston, Inc., 622 Harbor Creek Place, Charleston, SC 29401.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Magnolia Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at 12:30 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
