Sebastian John Jenkins

Senior Airman Sebastian J. Jenkins, 23, of Charleston, SC passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016. He was born on Monday, April 26, 1993 in Charleston, SC, son of Autumn Harrison Barton and Kirk Edward Jenkins. Sebastian graduated from James Island Charter High School in 2011. He was a devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers and the Texas Longhorns He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Sebastian loved his family, especially his little brother, Tristan. His family will remember him as a loving son, loyal warrior, friend and brother. He was deployed to an undisclosed location in support of Operation Inherent Resolve on October 15, 2014 – April 15, 2015 and April 20, 2016 – October 17, 2016. After initial assignment in the United States Air Force, he furthered his training by graduating Raven B Operator, Advanced Designated Marksman and Principles of Instruction. During his first deployment, he was handpicked to be a first responder and dispatched to the site of a fatal aircraft mishap off the installation, where he helped establish initial security with Host Nation forces and cordoned off the crash site. For his distinctive accomplishments, Senior Airman Jenkins was awarded his first Air Force Achievement Medal. During his second deployment, Senior Airman Jenkins executed 25 Small Unmanned Aerial System sorties, providing 20 hours of coverage. He also served as a Combined Vehicle Search Area team member and contributed to the wing’s receipt of the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award. For his distinctive accomplishments, Senior Airman Jenkins was awarded his second Air Force Achievement Medal. He is preceded in death by his beloved great-grandmother, Lucia Kroll. Sebastian is survived by his parents: Autumn Harrison Barton and her husband, Chad, of James Island, SC and Kirk Edward Jenkins of Manassas, VA; his brother, Tristan Lee Barton of James Island, SC; grandparents: George and Kelly Bramble of Charleston, SC; Cheryl Kroll of FL and Linda Marie Koester of Manassas, VA; aunts and uncles: Amber Bramble, Summer York, Kris Smith, Kristy Smith and Karen Jenkins. He is also survived by countless friends and his Safeside family. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel.
