Sharon Jean Cook (Ells)

July 25, 1956 — September 8, 2015

Sharon Jean Ells Cook, a great mother, and a loving and understanding wife, passed away on September 8, 2015. Sharon was born on July 25, 1956, in England. Her parents were both from Nebraska. She went to middle and high school in Mount Pleasant. She always looked at this area as home. Sharon loved to cook, create new dishes and research cultural and ethnic similarities in food preparation. She wanted all children to enjoy and benefit from a variety of fruits and vegetables. She created a pasta sauce that helped several children, and a few adults, to develop a taste for vegetables. When Sharon’s daughter was born on January 10, 1995, her newest focus was on Jennifer Ann Cook. She amazingly saw Jennifer’s strengths and difficulties. Instead of despair, Sharon vowed to all she could for her. When Jennifer was finally diagnosed with autism, Sharon only doubled her efforts to help Jennifer accomplish as much as possible. She spent the rest of her life with this as her prime focus. She will be greatly missed. Sharon is survived by her husband, Don Cook and daughter, Jennifer Cook. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, on October 3, 2015, at Isle of Palms at Breach Inlet (between IOP and Sullivan’s Island). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks at www.autismspeaks.org or the Carolina Children’s Charity at 1064 Gardner Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
