Shirley Ann Kennedy

December 15, 1937 — February 14, 2020

Shirley Ann Kennedy, 82, of Summerville, SC , entered into eternal rest on February 14, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 15, 1937 in Andrews, SC, Shirley is the daughter of the late Mannie Corneilous Cannon and Vernell Cannon.

While attending Williamsburg High School in Andrews, SC, Shirley was the basketball team captain, leading her school to consecutive winning seasons.

After graduating high school, Shirley started her professional career by studying at Palmer Business College which eventually became the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

After Al got out of the Navy, they traveled to Montana where Shirley went to work as a secretary for the vice president of First National Bank.

In the following years she continued in the banking business working in Lewistown and Missoula Montana.

In 1969, Al and Shirley returned to South Carolina, and shortly thereafter, she began selling Avon. Shirley excelled at being an Avon lady. Avon corporate recognized her strong skill set and promoted her to District Manager. She worked as an Avon District Manager for the next 25 years becoming the top District Manager in the nation. Her career with Avon provided extensive travel that not only included the U.S.A., but all over the world. She has been to Greece, Turkey, London and Rome (where her group had the pleasure of meeting the Pope).

She also trained other successful district managers before retiring from Avon in 1993.

Retirement kept her active as she enjoyed tennis, golf and bowled in a league for 20 years.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Shirley primarily worked with young women helping them to recognize their strengths and potential. She also worked as a home visiting teacher.

The greatest pride of Shirley's life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides Al Kennedy, her faithful husband of 63 years, Shirley is survived by her sister Vera Howard and her husband David, her son, Alan Kennedy and his wife Stephanie, her son John Kennedy and his wife Rita, her grandchildren Joe Kennedy, Jeff Kennedy and Alex Kennedy and her great-grandsons Emery Kennedy and Oliver Kennedy as well as her extended family Brian and Rita Jordan.
