Susan Barley Richter, wife of William 'Bill' Ripon Richter (deceased) passed away on the morning of Saturday, October 23 2021 in Mount Pleasant, SC.
Susan was born in Charleston, SC on March 18, 1955 to Bill Barley and Marie Soubeyroux Barley. Susan was the oldest sibling and only sister to 8 brothers, who she loved dearly. Susan grew up in Mount Pleasant and graduated from Bishop England High School with the class of 1973. Susan briefly attended Clemson University before returning home to continue her education at College of Charleston for several years and would soon begin working with the family business as a Real Estate Appraiser.
In 1983, Susan married the love of her life, Bill Richter, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston. They were simply soulmates and adored one another. They would eventually have 3 children (Christopher, Ashleymarie, and Zachary) and were dedicated to providing those children and each other with a life full of love, happiness, and comfort. To Susan, her family meant absolutely everything. In 1999, tragedy would strike as Bill passed away after a 3 year battle with cancer. Facing the overwhelming task of raising those children on her own, Susan was relentless and fearless as she did everything possible to ensure her children's well being always came first and they were taken care of. Only possible through the sacrifices and support of Susan, all 3 would grow up to graduate high school and college and lead successful lives of their own.
Susan loved spending time with her family and friends. Holidays, cookouts, and get-togethers with her parents, children, brothers and their families were her favorite. She also loved weekend getaways and parties with her "Birthday Club" and close friends from high school.
Susan is survived by her children, Christopher Richter and wife, Lorin, Ashleymarie Friddle and husband, Austin, and Zachary Richter and wife Julia; and her two grandsons, William and Christian Richter. She is also survived by her brothers, Victor Barley and wife, Terri Crowe, Stephen Barley and wife, Sherry, Bruce Barley, Keith Barley, Matthew Barley, and Brian Barley and wife, Mary Beth.
The visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 29, 2021 at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 1520 Rifle Range Rd. Mt.
Pleasant, SC 29464 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a rosary starting at 6:00 PM.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd.
Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 at 12 noon.
