Susan Marie Smith

September 19, 1960 — October 23, 2014

Susan Marie Smith, 54, of Goose Creek, passed away at her home on October 23, 2014. Born in Warner Robins, GA, she is the daughter of Jack and Gloria Sullivan and wife to Douglas Smith. Susan grew up in an U.S. Air Force family in Orlando, FL. She found her greatest love and married Douglas on March 7, 1997. They lived in Georgia, Hawaii, Missouri, and Virginia before retiring from the Navy and settling down in Goose Creek. Susan attended University of Missouri to study developmental psychology. She planned to continue her education at Columbia College. Susan was never hesitant to try new experiences or talk with new people. She could strike up a conversation with anyone on the street and easily find something in common. She happily took the challenge to learn new outdoor activities like snowboarding, roller blading, skeet shooting, and many more. Susan was never without kindness toward people who were not as fortunate as she had become and would, without reluctance, give you the shirt off her literal back if it would help make your life better. She is survived by her husband of eighteen years, Douglas Smith; two sons, Adam Dunning and wife April of Goose Creek and Joshua Lehto and wife Samantha of Jefferson City, MO; two granddaughters, Taylor Dunning and Gracie Lehto; parents, Jack and Gloria Sullivan of Hilliard, FL; three brothers, Jackie Sullivan of Bryceville, FL, Ron Sullivan of Hilliard, FL and John Sullivan of Coffee Springs, AL; sister, Cindy Hall of New Market, AL. The family chose to conduct an intimate gathering at her house to remember her and place flowers. It is the family’s request that you give also freely and lovingly in remembrance of her spirit. Whether it be a longer embrace with a loved one, a phone call to mend a broken relationship, a meal to someone who is without, or even a larger check to a charity of your choice; give to show your love to those around you. It is in these actions that you allow the best of her to remain here with us and for the seeds of love she has planted in all of us to continue to grow and blossom.
