Tommy Matney

July 20, 1968 — August 7, 2020

A Celebration of Life

Tommy Matney, 52, of Summerville, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 7, 2020. Born on July 20, 1968 in Grundy, Virginia, Tommy is the son of the late Elmer Matney and Josephine Matney.

Tommy retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 29 ½ years as a Nuclear Electricians Mate, (Submarines), achieving the rank of Master Chief. Two years prior to Tommy's retirement, he and Shawntelle started MCC Property Solutions, Incorporated, a residential renovation and redevelopment company. Tommy loved renovating and building homes; more importantly, he enjoyed the luxury of entrepreneurship as it allowed him the time and freedom to be with his greatest love, his wife and children. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing and fishing. Tommy was a man of integrity, if he gave you his word, rest assured he would make it happen. He never mixed his words; he said what he meant and surely meant what he said. He was honest, he was fair, and he was consistent. Not only was he respected and loved by many; but also, he positively impacted every person he met. Tommy was an extraordinary father and everything he did in life, since having children, has been for them.

Tommy's greatest love and true joy was his family, his dear wife Shawntelle, daughters Natasha (Becky), Michaela, and Cassidy, and son Caleb. In addition to his family, Tommy is also survived by his mother, Josephine, and sisters, Jearline Bledsoe and husband, Charles, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Lorine Matney of Pinellas Park, Florida, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Dorchester Memorial Gardens in Summerville. The funeral service will immediately follow.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
