William Wallace 'Bill' Grafton

March 21, 1937 — February 22, 2014

Mr. William W. Grafton, Sr., age 77, husband of Marilyn Grafton, of James Island, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at MUSC. William W. Grafton was born on March 21, 1937 in Hartford, MD to the late Hazel Cherry. Mr. Grafton was retired Navy E6 after 21 years of service. He enjoyed building and racing model airplanes and boats and he loved working on his trains. He was a volunteer with the USO at the Charleston airport with his wife of 55 years. Survivors include his son, William W. Grafton, Jr. (Melissa) of Hawaii and his daughter, Therese Petri of Summerville; 6 grandchildren, Mia and William Lumayas Grafton, Alyssa Grafton, Shelby, Derek and Megan Petri and 3 great-grandchildren, Brydon Mersebergh and Cristean John Parks and Carter Parks; nephews, Peter and Michael DeFrancisco of Illinois and Joseph and Christopher Grafton of Maryland and two sisters-in-law, Dreama Grafton of Maryland and Elaine DeFrancisco of Illinois. A viewing will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Friday, February 28, 2014 with a Mass to follow at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Rd. James Island, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mrs. Grafton. Arrangements are provided by McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, Phone: 843-614-8494.
